Pragathi Scholarship and Mentorship Program 2024-25

As part of our new Scholarship program for 2024-25, we are planning to support 10 students who have demonstrated academical excellence and dire financial need with tuition and boarding, counseling, and mentorship.
Pragathi is seeking sponsors for these outstanding students for economically weak backgrounds who are aspiring to become doctors or engineers. You can help them accomplish their dreams by sponsoring $1,500/year* for 4-years. You can avail corporate matching if its available to you.

Ananya
​​I want to be a Dentist
​​As a child, Ananya Gowda from Belalu witnessed cancer strike her family twice. Her mother, a lab technician, was diagnosed when Ananya was in 7th grade, and during her treatment, her father, a KSRTC conductor, also developed cancer and passed away. Ananya's mother shielded her from the tough situation at home, spending most of her salary on loan repayments and cancer treatment. Ananya plans to pursue dentistry at AJ dental college in Mangalore to remain close to her mother, forgoing Medicine elsewhere. She enjoys reading poetry and fiction, and hopes to care for her mother and younger brother after graduating while serving society.

Prajwal
I want to be an Engineer

Prajwal Mantur, hailing from Savasuddi, lost his father at age 6 and mother at 12. Raised by his grandmother, who worked as a housemaid, he secured a seat at NIE, Mysore, to pursue computer science. His older brother aspires to become a policeman, while his sister is pursuing an MSc.

Deepika
I want to be a Engineer

Deepika Hegde, who lost her father to liver cancer at 11 was raised by her mother in Oudal near Sirsi, they sustain themselves with crops from their 0.5-acre adike farm. Having studied in free residential schools for gifted children and secured the 3rd rank in SSLC, will pursue a computer science degree at RV University. She enjoys playing chess and Sudoku. Her older brother holds a diploma in electrical and electronics.

Akshitha
I want to be a Engineer
​
​Akshatha Hindasageri, a resident of Devikoppa near Dharwad, plans to pursue Electrical Engineering. Her father, a laborer and carpenter's assistant, studied until 6th grade, while her mother, currently sick for the past 6 months, worked as a farm laborer and studied until 4th grade. Akshatha attended a government residential school from 6th to 10th grade and secured a scholarship for PUC. She joined BVB Engineering College to stay close to home due to allergies. With an unaffordable engineering education, her parents want her to apply for jobs as a village post-office worker or accountant. Akshatha has a younger brother and sister, and enjoys reading and coding.

Rakshitha
I want to be a Doctor
​Rakshitha, hailing from Devanahalli near Bengaluru, will pursue MBBS at Mysore Medical College. Her family, engaged in flower farming for the Bengaluru market, provided her with free residential schooling for the gifted from 6th grade onwards. A gold medalist in the district-level Kannada exam and a silver medalist in long-jump, she enjoys arts and crafts, assisting her parents, and teaching yoga. Rakshitha holds certifications in Yoga and NCC.

Praveen
I want to be a Engineer
​Praveen, from Nagamangala near Mandya, lost his father during the COVID-19 pandemic while in 10th grade. He lives in a joint family with his mother and older brother. Pursuing computer science at SJCE, Mysore, Praveen has worked as a server at catering events to support his family's basic needs, as his mother struggles financially. An avid cricketer who represented his college in PUC, Praveen's brother is studying BSc in nursing.

Dhanush
I want to be a Engineer
​Dhanush, from Kollegal in Chamarajanagara, will pursue Computer Science at SJCE, Mysore. His father's independent restaurant business was shut down due to COVID-19, and he now relies on erratic and seasonal local catering work. With his elder child studying 3rd year engineering at Coorg Institute of Technology, financing Dhanush's education is a significant challenge for his father. They reside in a small rented house in Kollegal. Despite the difficulties, Dhanush has excelled as a chess player, participating in state-level competitions last year.

Gurukiran
I want to be a Doctor
Gurukiran, from Gosikere near Challakere in Chitradurga taluk, comes from a family of laborers. His father works as a mason, and they grow jowar on their 1-acre land. Until recently, the family lived in a hut adjacent to their field but have now constructed a small house. They supplement their income by engaging in farming activities with neighbors. With no financial support for his professional studies, Gurukiran secured an MBBS seat at the Government Medical College, Chikmagaluru, through his academic excellence. Aspiring to become a doctor and serve rural communities, he received financial and moral support from the principal of his PU college, who hails from his village and motivated him to pursue his dreams.

Chethan
I want to be a Doctor
Chethan, who underwent open-heart surgery at 9 months old and has 40% visual impairment causing eye strain from excessive reading, secured admission to Hassan Institute of Medical Science. Hailing from Banavase, Gorur, Hassan, he resides in the ancestral tiled-roof house with his joint family of 13 members. They cultivate jowar and ragi on their farm. His parents are apprehensive about sending him far away due to his medical condition.

Rachana
I want to be a Engineer
​Rachana, a cancer survivor from Mellahalli, Hassan district, overcame an ovarian tumor at a young age to enroll in Engineering. Her oncologist lauds her as "a remarkable young girl who has faced incredible challenges with courage and determination. Despite her health struggles, she has excelled academically." However, her journey has been arduous, as her parents, daily wage workers, grapple with financing her education.

Supreetha
I want to be an Doctor in Ayurveda
Supreetha Phatepur, raised by a single mother after her father's demise, has two sisters. Hailing from Badami in Bagalkote district, she plans to pursue a degree in Ayurvedic medicine in Haveri. An active participant in drama and school athletics, Supreetha studied in free residential schools for gifted students from 6th grade onwards.

Harinipriya
I want to be an Doctor
Harinipriya, from Devangapete in Kollegal Taluk, Chamarajanagar district, secured admission to MBBS at Mysore Medical College in the first round of allotment, topping the district in KCET and NEET 2024. Her parents, saree weavers, receive orders and raw materials from Tamil Nadu. Aspiring to become a doctor and serve society, she has a brother studying in high school in Kollegal.

Sai Sagar
I want to study MBA
​Sai Sagar, from a village in Devadurga Taluk, Raichur district, studied in Kannada medium till 10th and English medium from PUC onwards. His outstanding performance in the engineering entrance exam secured him a seat in the AI & ML course at MSRIT, Bengaluru. Aspiring to pursue an MBA after graduation, he enjoys drawing and dance. His father works as a delivery boy for e-kart, while his mother is a homemaker. With a sister in 12th standard and a brother in 9th staying with grandparents, the family resides in their village house near Devadurga.

Tentan
I want to be a Engineer
Tentan, a native of Tumkur who moved to Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru, secured the 6th rank in Karnataka's II PUC and the 929th rank in CET, gaining admission to the Information Science course at RVCE, Bangalore. Aspiring to secure a good job after engineering, support his family, and pursue post-graduation, his hobbies include Carnatic music singing, reading Kannada novels, and drawing. His father, a matriculate, works as a daily wage spare driver, while his graduate mother is a homemaker. With his father as the sole breadwinner, the family, including his brother studying in 9th standard at Nadaprabhu Public School, resides in a rented house in Kamakshipalya.

​Chethan Gowda, from Sira Taluk in Tumkur district, joined the Diploma in Tool & Die Making at NTTF, Bangalore, where he won the best design award in CAD at an international skills competition. After completing his diploma this year and securing the 21st rank in DCET, he gained admission to RVCE, Bangalore, for computer science. Aspiring to participate in hackathons, become a skilled software engineer, and support his family, his hobbies include drawing, badminton, and swimming. His father runs a tea shop in their village near Sira Taluk, while his mother is a homemaker. His sister is pursuing a diploma at GTTC, Challakere.

​Sammed Mahaveer Hanje, from Alagawadi in Bagalkote district, is studying medicine at KIMS, Hubli. His father, an SSLC pass, is a farmer with 3 acres of dryland cultivating sugarcane and jowar, relying on rain and borewell water. His mother, a homemaker educated up to 8th standard, and he have an older sister who completed BSc in Agriculture and a younger one. The family's agricultural income is their sole sustenance.

Trisha
I want to be an Doctor
​Trisha Patil, from Kundrahalli, Gadag District, plans to pursue medicine at Nijaingappa College in Bagalkote. Hailing from a rural background, her family's sole income comes from agriculture on their 2-acre ancestral land, where they cultivate onions and groundnuts. She has two younger brothers studying in 8th and 6th standards. They reside in their sheet-roofed house. Motivated to serve the poor, Trisha was inspired by Dr. Narayan from Narayana Hrudayalaya during a college talk. Determined to study medicine, she is also adept at painting, chess, and badminton.

Kishan
I want to be an Doctor
​Kishan, from Sonnamaranahalli, Doddaballapur, plans to pursue MBBS at Bangalore Medical College. His father is a farmer, and his mother, a former tailor, has limited mobility due to a leg injury. His elder brother, Girish S.V., is studying MSc Physics. Hailing from a five-member family residing in their grandmother's small house, Kishan's hobbies include reading novels, keeping up with current affairs, and trekking.

Amoghavarsha
I want to be a Engineer
​Amoghavarsha Itagi, from Masabahanchinal, Koppal, is studying Electronics at NIT, Suratkal. His father, a farmer and BA in History, named him after the Rashtrakuta emperor Nrupatunga, who ruled a large part of India for 64 years. While assisting his father in farming, Amoghavarsha met with an accident when a tractor fell on him, necessitating hospitalization and further surgery, though he has recovered.

Kushma
I want to be an Doctor
​Kushma, from Nukkanahalli, Kolar, plans to pursue Engineering at UVCE, Bangalore. Her father, a farmer with 2 acres of dryland cultivating sweet corn and cabbage, earns an annual income of 3-4 lakhs. While her sister pursues Engineering through an education loan, the family's limited agricultural resources support their daughters' education. Kushma's hobbies include watercolor painting, sketching, participating in school competitions, and she secured a prize in singing Bhagavad Gita.
